ACCREDITED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR SCIENCE TEACHERS:
Asteroids Arrive in the Classroom for teachers of grades 3-12 Friday, August 18th 2006 at Fiske Planetarium (CU-Boulder) or can be offered at your location
Asteroids Arrive in the Classroom is a one-day workshop for teachers of grades 3-12 at Fiske Planetarium (University of Colorado at Boulder) on Friday, August 18th 2006. This workshop is supported by a NASA grant so the course and materials are free. However, to receive 1/2 semester hour of graduate level credit through the Colorado School of Mines' Teacher Enhancement Program there will be a $30 processing fee.
The teaching style will focus on fun, hands-on learning with inquiry- and standards-based materials and activities. The workshop is planned in conjunction with a Boulder classroom teacher and will include solar system information, activities related to asteroids, meteors, Pluto, and the newly discovered planets (or are they asteroids or ???), plus the planetarium show "Cosmic Collisions."
Workshop materials are available in both English and Spanish for bilingual classrooms.
If a group of teachers would like to organize a workshop in your city, I would be happy to teach the workshop at your location.
